The 10,000 Publisher Vision

Kenny Katzgrau
Creator of Broadstreet

Hi, I’m Kenny Katzgrau, the creator of Broadstreet.

I’m on a mission to serve 10,000 publishers in 2026.

See Daybreak: Turn your readers into advertisers (free for all publishers).

When I started Broadstreet, no angel investor or tech accelerator would touch us. So I bootstrapped. One by one, I cold-called and emailed publishers. Some, like Howard Owens at the Batavian, gave me the time of day. Others hung up.

Year by year, we grew our publisher base, our team, and our reputation as a smart, authentic company that really gives a shit.

For years, I said, “One day we’ll serve 10,000 publishers.”

It was one of those seemingly preposterous things you put on a vision board.

Then last year, I challenged myself: When exactly are you going to do that, Kenny?

Then I decided: 2026.

I realized I’d reached a point where the company was no longer in survival mode. Broadstreet had grown up a bit and was in a position to make a real impact for its publishers — and to spread a message of hope and opportunity in local news.

I kept thinking about Daybreak, a lead generation tool I originally built at Red Bank Green. It’s simple, it works, and it has brought me lots of oppurtunities in the form of great advertiser conversations.

So I thought: why doesn’t every publisher use something like Daybreak?

Local news publishers around the world have built built up an incredible store of goodwill in their communities. When they make it easy for potential supporters to raise their hand, they will.

That was it. 10,000 publishers should use Daybreak.

I set the 10,000 publisher goal for three reasons:

To make a real impact for local and niche publishers everywhere.

It’s still early, but as I write this, Daybreak has already driven more than 700 leads for local news publishers. If each one produced just $1,000 a year in revenue, that would represent $700,000 in value.

To show publishers value before asking for anything in return.

We’ll get where we want to go as a company by first helping publishers get where they want to go.

For who we become on the way.

Serving 10,000 publishers is a huge goal, and there’s no obvious path to it. It will force us to focus, think creatively, and execute at a level we never have before. What we learn in the process will help us serve publishers even better.

If there’s going to be a bright future for local news, we can’t sit around taking little swings or waiting for it to happen on its own.

The big guys like Google and Meta sure aren’t going to do it. It’s up to all of us.

If you can think of a way to help us get to 10,000 — whether that means using Daybreak or becoming a partner — hit us up. We’re always looking for partners, advisors, and consultants who can help us move the needle in a measurable way.
